Upper-Grammar Class Descriptions and Supply Lists

Upper-Grammar

Humanities

This two-hour block is an integrated humanities course driven by great books focusing on stories from Ancient History. Students will dive deep into the literature while exploring history, geography, composition, poetry, art, music, and church history.

Required Curriculum: Literature selections of Ancient History, IEW Ancient History, and Famous Men of Roman Times, and Famous Men of Greek Times.

At Home Recommendations: Students will complete weekly literature assignments, IEW writing assignments, and selections from Famous Men of Rome and Famous Men of Greece.

 

Latin for Children B

This class is designed to teach Latin in an inviting and creative way. The student will be trained in grammar, vocabulary, and English derivatives. Lessons teach mnemonic aids (songs and chants) that enable students to learn Latin with ease and delight.

Required Curriculum: Latin for Children Primer B Student book, answer key, history reader & videos.

Optional: Activity Book

At Home Requirements: Students will complete video lessons at home prior to class and weekly assignments from Latin for Children Primer B student book and history reader.

 

Public Speaking

In this course students will learn memory and delivery techniques as they write and present five styles of speeches: self-introductory, narrative, expository, persuasive, and impromptu. Students evaluate recorded speeches in preparation for self-evaluation. This class helps students become competent and confident public speakers.

Required Curriculum: Introduction to Public Speaking [Binder & Student Packet] Each student must have his/her own Binder & Student Packet.

Science

Students will explore God’s creation through botany. This will include exposure to vocabulary, the scientific method, and hands-on experiments.

Required Curriculum: Apologia Exploring Creation with Botany Textbook and Notebook Journal

At Home Recommendations: Students will read weekly from their textbooks and complete assignments in the Notebooking Journal.
